Located in the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street in Paddington, MAC Cosmetics adds a vibrant and playful atmosphere. The brand is well known for its high quality, photogenic cosmetics that allow the individual to wholly express themselves. To date, many MAC stores consist of a high-gloss black and timber palette, with the only colour being the make-up itself. The aim of this project was to showcase MAC’s philosophy of “All Race, All Sexes, All Ages” in a fun and inviting space.
MAC’s Cosmetics range includes a wide range of colours as well as providing make-up for all purposes from everyday wear to Drag and professional Avant-Garde. This design highlights these positive attributes by creating a more welcoming space. From the street, the brightly coloured geometric panels of the shopfront draw passers-by immediately to the store. Upon approaching the entrance one is enveloped in a cave of shapes and colours and the unforgettable journey through the store begins. Taking inspiration from the MAC font, a collection of triangular shapes and angles were used throughout the store in a variety of colours.
The Mid-Floor display stands as an artwork in its entirety, with each back-lit triangle holding a featured product from the store. The outside of this display provides an area where customers can comfortably try on the product and seek advice from the knowledgeable staff. Further storage and display is provided on the right hand wall which stands opposite to an interactive projection wall that acts as a live wallpaper which the store can change depending on their needs. As a whole MAC Paddington provides an all-encompassing and interactive shopping experience that leaves the customers not only with its amazing product but also with a better understanding for the brand’s philosophy.
